Leeds can now boast it’s very own 100% Gluten Free restaurant, where the kitchen is a guaranteed safe area free from the risk of cross ‘contamination’. A number of venues do have GF options, and others even go so far as to have a GF menu.. well 2 Oxford Place takes the leap into being the only place where it’s not a case of ‘what can I eat from the menu’ but rather ‘what would I like to eat from the menu’.
I was lucky enough to be invited along to a preview evening on Friday 9th May, in advance of their grand opening date on Tuesday 13th May, and it was a delight to meet up with the restaurant owner Victoria (and family, who were these supporting the event) along with tasting some of the fine offerings from their menu.
Now, I’m lucky not to have any food intolerance (that I’m aware of), but I’d like to assure anyone else in the same position as myself that the GF menu isn’t just for those who need to be conscious and careful of what they eat. None of the food sampled on the evening tasted any different, and if I hadn’t already been aware of the specialist nature of their menu I would never have guessed.
If you’re looking for a personal recommendation from my tasting then you have to try the homemade scotch eggs – without a doubt! And for the sweet toothed diner you’re in for a treat, as Victoria bakes all of the cakes on offer and you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The prices offer really good value with mains at around £10 – £12, but they also have a ‘Dinner Dish of the Day’ special offering at only £10. I was informed on the evening, when I mentioned the reasonable pricing, that this was partly influenced by a ‘what would I be willing to pay for this?’ pricing structure philosophy – if only more restaurants would take this into consideration!!
Check out the full menu and then give them a call to make your first booking, and I’m sure it won’t be your last – www.2oxfordplace.com
